Helping Charitable Organization with Backgammon and Poker

On May 11, 2007, both the game of backgammon, poker and an appearance of a screen legend are helping to produce funds for a worthwhile endeavor. Anne Astaire is the brains behind the yearly Omar Sharif Backgammon and Poker Tournament, which aims to raise the needed cash for the children's charity one-to-one non profit organization. Astaire, who lives on Fairfax Road, started the event 6 years ago before the current poker demand in the market.

Astaire said that they are doing this for a good cause so they are confident enough that they would stay for a very long time. At first, it seems a weird idea to hold a charitable backgammon tournament but the idea grows with the players as time passes by.

Whether Mr. Sharif, Oscar winning actor from Lawrence of Arabia, shows up or not, the event will push through. The tournament was held in the Sketch Club on Conduit Street. Players registered in the tournament by paying a total of 365 pounds.

The organizers of the event are hoping to exceed the 100,000 pound mark that was raised almost 12 months ago. The cash that will be earned this year will go to charitable activities for South Africa and the Middle East.

The One to One founder, Rita Eker said that they are grateful for the organizers of the event and are hoping that people will support this year's Backgammon and Poker Tournament.
