Mohia Maat Wins Backgammon Tournament Held by the Trinidad Backgammon Association

A "Bajan" onslaught is an appropriate description when 2 Barbados base backgammon players participated at the first ever backgammon tournament held by the Trinidad Backgammon Association and wound up with the top prize. The tournament, which was held at the Trinidad and Tobago Sweetline Restaurants, aimed to expose people all over the world to the joys of this very popular game.

The Backgammon tournament, which will be held on a monthly basis, attracted about 30 backgammon players like John Wallis and Mohia Ma'at from Barbados. With a top prize of about $5,000, the tournament saw a fierce competition among the contestants. Nonetheless, Wallis and Ma'at proved to play Backgammon better than the rest of the players in the group, so they ended up competing against each other in the final round of the competition.

Ma'at, currently a law student in Trinidad and Tobago, played with ease and confidence as he fought against Wallis in the end, who also showed that he is a tough player.

Ma'at was then declared the winner, taking home the cash prize and the right to be called the first ever champion of the Backgammon tournament.
