Backgammon lovers are being encouraged to join the inaugural online ESOB (European Series of Backgammon) tournament on March 28th, 2010 at ESOB.com. The backgammon tournament has an estimated prize pool of fifteen thousand euros.
The event is being organized by a new non-profit group handled by a committee that includes John Clarke, backgammon gamer Eric Guedj and event organizer Mike Main with the help of a number of gaming groups.
The committee plans to hold four backgammon champions annually that will lure some of the best backgammon gamers in the world and eventually increase the prize pool to one hundred thousand euros. The inaugural ESO tournament is being capped to just 70 players and has a direct buy-in cost of two hundred twenty euros but interested individuals can also qualify at ESOB.com for just 2.20 euros.
The group said that it also planning to bring a number of offline backgammon events together in the world like Greece's Zakynthos Backgammon Festival to begin an annual European Backgammon tour.
The first tournament in this brand new backgammon series will be the 11th annual Scope Bridge and Backgammon tournament in U.K. capital early next month followed by the Scottish Backgammon Tournament in Edinburgh a few weeks later and the London Backgammon Open in May 2010.
There will be important information on each tournament aside from post-tournament interviews and pictures at European Series of Backgammon.com with the 7-event series concluding in August 2010 with the Bristol Backgammon Open.
Clark, who is the leader of the new committee, said that they believe that ESOB's launch will open new opportunities for the backgammon circuit in the continent.
