Poland and Austria Fight It Out for WBF European Backgammon Championships

On May 13, 2007, Poland and Austria fought it out for the title of Champion of Europe in the Masters Final Backgammon Tournament. It would be Turkey versus Germany in the Championship Division.

The Intermediate Version of the Masters Final Backgammon Tournament hosted the Italy versus Turkey Backgammon Tournament final.

Backgammon Player Zibigniew from Poland, who has participated in these European Championships religiously for a number of years now, edged out Ricardo Malas from Spain in one of the 19 point matches that day in the Masters Semi-Finals. While in the other competition, it was Werner Schmuck from Austria edging out Tassilo Ryzman from Austria for what would be Werner Schmuck's 3rd attempt at winning the title.

It remains to be seen whether he could do it or not this time around. It is widely known that Zibigniew Szczerek carefully studies different Backgammon strategies from books and other online Backgammon sites and trains regularly with the GNUbg program.

Szczerek won the final of the warm-ups yesterday for the second consecutive time and was happy to reach the Master final. He appears to be prepared and confident as he plays in the tournament final.
